Breath Pause Back Translate is an optional feature in a Render project, depending on the consultant’s desires. If the consultant does not speak the receptor language of the translation team and would like this type of back translation, Breath Pause Back Translate should be turned on. This can be changed by the Configure role of your project.
As a user with Breath Pause Back Translation assignments, you will listen to the receptor language translations and record your back translation in a language that the consultant understands. The translation team’s recording will be automatically split up into smaller pieces where the translator paused to take a breath.
To begin Breath Pause Back Translation:
1. Launch Render.
2. Click on your user name and input your password if you have one.
3. Click on the yellow Breath Pause Back Translate button on your Home page. (If the button is not yellow, sync your machine.)
You will be brought to the Set Listen page. A set is one section of audio that is related by a theme and gives you a wider understanding of the context of that portion of text. A set is made of smaller parts—passages, which is considered the smallest translatable unit. In Breath Pause, you will be listening to an entire set of translation that the translation team worked on before starting any back translation.
The yellow Play button means that you have to press play before moving to the next step. While playing you can pause and scrub (move) backward, but you can only scrub forward to pieces that you have listened to.
4. Press the yellow Play button and listen all the way through.
5. Press the yellow Next button.
You are now at the Select page:
1. Home button
2. Set title
3. Select player
4. Play button
5. Next button
Hitting the Home button (1) will bring you back to your Home page. The Set Title (2) shows you what set you are currently working on.
The set you just listened to will be loaded into the Select player (3), split up automatically by breath pauses—places that the translator stopped to take a breath. As you can see above, there are many different segments in the Select player, separated by thin gray vertical lines. The first part is bright blue as it has been selected; it has been clicked on. You can listen to any part of the set by pressing the blue Play button (4) and scrubbing the player with the white arrow. When you press the Record button (5), it will bring you to the Breath Pause Back Translation Record page, with the selected portion as the translation audio source. Once you are finished with your back translation of the entire set, the Next button (6) will become active.
