Tablets, Laptops, or Desktops

Render is designed to be used on any Windows machine running Windows 7, 8, 10, or 11. However, we cannot guarantee that all devices will run Render properly. If you want to run Render on a mac, you must run a Window's partition; we do not support running Render on a virtual machine or emulator.

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Windows OS (Render 2.3 will not work with Windows 10S, Chrome OS, Android, or IOS because they are not full Windows OS versions.)
  • 8+ GBs of RAM (16+ GBs starting in 2023)
  • 100+ GB hard drive (about 10GBs per project with typical scope) or larger if using the laptop for files in addition to Render
  • 1+ USB 2.0 or 3.0 port 
  • Dedicated charging port
  • Touch screens (Render has been optimized for a touch screen interface so that less tech savvy users are not forced to use a mouse. This is optional for tech savvy users.)

  • Dell Inspiron 5000 5510
  • Lenovo Yoga-C740
  • Dell Inspiron 7386
  • HP Envy 360
  • Acer Flagship Spin Touchscreen (has not been tested, but has the proper specs) 

We do not recommend:

  •  HP Elitebook computers older than G5 (does not work well with USB microphones)


Microphones

Minimum Requirements:

  • USB 2.0/3.0 connection interface
  • Noise canceling
  • Does not have Automatic Gain Control (AGC)

Other considerations:

  • Headsets allow for consistent placement of the microphone and some freedom of movement, but if the cord is hit it may add background noise
  • Tabletop or stand microphones require the translator to be four to six inches from the microphone when recording, which can restrict movement but lead to high quality audio with proper placement
  • Wireless solutions allow for unimpeded performance while recording, but can cause recording glitches and they require charging

Some good example devices:

  • HyperX Cloud Stinger wired headset (3.5mm) paired with the Creative Labs Sound Blaster Play! 3 external USB sound adapter 
  • Rode NT-USB Mini mic—table top or on a mic stand (recommended)
  • Blue Yeti USB mic—table top or on a mic stand (recommended)
  • HyperX Cloud 2 wired USB headset


We do not recommend:

  • Logitech H390
  • Logitech H540 (Windows does not allow good volume levels)
  • Sennheiser PC8 USB (picks up a lot of background noise)
  • Sennheiser SC60 Control (quality is compressed)
  • Tucci Q2 Game Headset (adds a buzzing noise when recording on any device)
  • Mpow HC6 (cord from audio jack is too short for recording; USB is low quality)


External Speakers/Microphone

Minimum Requirements: 

  • AUX port or USB connection
  • Omni-Directional Recording for community checking

A good example device:

  • Jabra SPEAK 410
  • Jabra SPEAK 510


Router

For synchronizing project files

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Wireless Standard: IEEE 802.11b/g/n 2.4GHz
  • USB storage sharing capability with a minimum of one USB 2.0 /3.0 port

Some good example devices:

  • TP-Link AC1750 WiFi Router - Archer A7
  • TP-Link AC1900 WiFi Router - Archer A9
  • TP-Link AC750 Wireless Portable Nano Travel Router
  • Linksys Dual-Band WiFi Router AC1200 (will work, but not as easy to set up)
  • TP-Link WiFI 6 Router AX 1800 (has not been tested, but has proper specifications)


Will not work: 

  • TP-Link AC1900 WiFi Router - Archer A8 (does not have USB drive)


Flash Memory (External Hard Drives and Flash Drives)

For synchronizing and storing project files and transferring project ID. Depending on the scope of your project and future projects, the necessary size of your external hard drive can vary greatly.

Minimum Requirements: 

  • 20GBs per project with typical scope
  • USB 2.0/3.0 connection interface
  • Less than 2TB


Surge Protectors

Depending on the purchased equipment, the number of outlets you will need can vary.

Minimum Requirements:

  • 1 outlet per device requiring power from an outlet
