If you're looking to set up a two-step back translation process for your Render project, you'll need a few things set up properly in your project:
- Two back translate users
- Languages for “Breath Pause Back Translate” and/or “Retell back translate” must go from receptor language>interim language (back translator 1) and interim language>consultant language (back translator 2). These languages can be chosen here on the Add user page:

Receptor language: Ma’di
Interim language: Swahili
Consultant’s language: English
We do not have anyone who can translate directly from Ma’di to English, so we will have to find a middle (interim) language that someone speaks to get to English. We do have two people that both speak Swahili, though. Our two back translation users for this example will be named "Back Translation 1" and "Back Translation 2". I will set Back Translation 1's "Back Translate From:" language to be our receptor language, Ma’di. Their "Back Translate To:" language will be our middle language, Swahili. Back Translation 2's "Back Translate From:" language will be our middle language, Swahili, and their "Back Translate To:" language will be our Consultant's language, English.
Following this example and changing out the languages will set you up for success when trying to set up two-step back translate. Remember, no matter how many steps you have in your back translation, it must always make it back to the consultant's language.
