Please note: Do not update your Render 3.7.X program unless directed to do so by your FCBH Project Coordinator.

These instructions are for Oral Bible Translation teams who use the Render 3.7.X Windows application. Your FCBH Project Coordinator will work with you to migrate your application and project to the next version of the Render application.

A.  Preparation of Project Devices

Your Project Coordinator will contact you and instruct you to prepare for the migration process by doing the following steps:

  1. Bring all Sections to a good stopping point (finishing work on the current stage).
  2. Web sync every project device.
  3. Stop work.

The Config (IT) person should then do the following for each project device:

  1. Process Windows updates
  2. Ensure that the version of Render on each device is 3.7.7. If it is not 3.7.7 now, please update the Render software using installation option 1a in this document "How to Download and Install Render 3".

B. Application Upgrade

After the above steps are completed, the Project Coordinator will enable the migration process for your project in the website application "Launch Pad" by turning the "Beta Test" switch to ON.

They will then instruct the Config/IT person for your project to perform the following steps on each project device to migrate them to the new Render application.

  1. Establish an internet connection.
  2. Open the existing Render program.
  3. Login as usual. Jump to step 7 below if you receive the download popup window.
  4. If the project of interest is not selected in the Project List, do that now. Go to the Project List and select the project of interest.
  5. Perform a sync.
  6. Log out, and then back in again.
  7. You will receive a pop-up window prompting you to download the new Render version. If you simply close the popup, it will appear again each time you login until you upgrade the application.
  8. Click the “Download new Render” button in the pop-up window. PLEASE NOTE: If the "Download new Render" button does not appear in the popup window, go to this site and click the "Download" button.
  9. This will direct you to the `install.appcenter` website.
  10. Before clicking the Download button on the website, check to see if the current version of Render is still running. If so, click the Render icon in the taskbar to open the app again. This will cause Render to finish its sync and then close.
  11. Now click the "Download" button on the web page. You might have to choose “Keep” at the end of the download.
  12. After the download is complete, locate the Render installer file in your Downloads folder. It will have a file name similar to “Render_3.8.10_x64.msix.”
  13. Double-click the file and choose “Install”A screenshot of a computer Description automatically generated

D.  What to do with the Render 3.7.7 application

  • Users who have only one project on their device can uninstall Render 3.7.7 after the migration.
  • Users who work with more than one Render project might have to continue using both (or all three) Render versions. Such users are often those who serve as Config/IT or Back Translators or Consultants. For these users it will be important to keep each relevant version of Render installed and to distinguish the application icons and open the correct version for each project.
