How to USB sync

Summary: This document provides a detailed guide for performing USB sync on project computers which have already completed the initial setup and configuration of the Render Project.

Equipment

  • Project laptop computers: Windows 10 or 11

  • USB flash drive. Ideally, one that is dedicated to this project so they can use it for USB sync when power goes out.

Steps for USB sync

USB sync is useful when neither Web sync nor LAN sync are available. For example, when there is a power outage in the translation office. When this happens, a USB flash drive can be used to synchronize project data among the project computers in the translation office.

  1. Insert the USB drive into one of the project computers.

  2. Open Render and login as the user for this computer.

  3. Click/tap on the 3-dot menu and then the ‘USB sync’ icon

  1. A Windows Explorer window will open. Search for and click/tap the folder USBSYNC and then click/tap “Select Folder.” If you cannot find the folder USBSYNC then create this folder first. Then, select it and click/tap “Select folder”

  1. Open the 3-dot menu again and wait until the USB ‘sync spinner’ stops turning.

  • Eject the USB drive and remove it from this computer. You can now use it to synchronize project data on the other computers using the same process.
