Transcribe is an optional feature in a Render project that allows someone to type out the back-translations in a written form to serve as a reference for the consultant during the Consultant Check stage. Transcriptions can be turned on in the workflow configuration settings (see Configure Workflow - Settings for Stages).

Transcribe can include a Passage Transcription (if the project includes a passage back-translation), a Segment Transcription (if the project includes a segment back-translation), or both. It is directly tied to the back-translation and can only be accessed after the back-translation has been completed.

To access Transcribe, select the icon from the Project Home.

Transcribe: Passage Select

If passage transcription is enabled, Transcribe will open with the Passage Select screen. This is where you can select which passage to transcribe first.

1. Active passage: the active passage stands out because it is not grayed out. Select the Next button (5) to proceed with the transcription of this passage.

2. Home button: selecting this returns you to the Project Home page

3. Menu: Project Home, Section Status, Export Audio, Project List, Sync, USB Sync, and Log Out

6. Play: select to listen to the back-translation.

7. Next: proceeds to the Passage Transcribe screen for the active passage.

Transcribe: Passage Transcribe

Passage Transcribe is where the passage back translation is transcribed.

  1. Copy: After typing out your transcription, you can select copy to copy the entire text. This will allow you to paste it into a different program outside of Render.
  2. Play: select to listen to the passage back translation.
  3. Loop: selecting this will cause the audio to start back at the beginning each time it reaches the end of the recording.
  4. Font size: select the Font size buttons to increase or decrease the size of the text you type.
  5. Text box: Click inside the textbox and begin typing to create your transcription.
  6. Nextproceeds to the Passage Select screen.

Transcribe: Segment Select

If segment transcription is enabled, Transcribe will either open with the Segment Select screen (if Passage Transcribe is not enabled), or will move to Segment Select after Passage Transcribe. This is where you can select which segment to transcribe first.

1. Active segment: the active segment stands out because it is not grayed out. Select the Next button (5) to proceed with the transcription of this segment. Any completed segments will have a checkmark beneath them.

2. Home button: selecting this returns you to the Project Home page

3. Menu: Project Home, Section Status, Export Audio, Project List, Sync, USB Sync, and Log Out

6. Play: select to listen to the back-translation.

7. Next: proceeds to the Segment Transcribe screen for the active segment until all segments are completed.
