Warning!: It is important to update every project computer at the same time. This includes the back-translator and consultant's computer.
These instructions are for Oral Bible Translation teams who use the Render 3.7.X application. Your FCBH Project Coordinator will work with you to migrate your application and project to the next version of the Render application.
A. Preparation of Project Devices
To prepare for the migration process, please complete the following steps:
- Bring all Sections to a good stopping point (finishing work on the current stage).
- Web sync every project device.
- Stop work.
The Config (IT) person should then do the following for each project device:
- Process Windows updates
- Ensure that the version of Render on each device is 3.7.7. If it is not 3.7.7 now, please update the Render software using installation option 1c in the document "How to Download and Install Render 3".
B. Application Upgrade
To upgrade to Render 3.10.x, complete the following steps on each project device:
- Establish an internet connection.
- Open the existing Render program.
- Login as usual. If you receive a pop-up window that states an update is available, go to step 7.
- Perform a sync.
- Log out, and then back in again.
- You will receive a pop-up window prompting you to download the new Render version. If you simply close the pop-up, it will appear again each time you login until you upgrade the application.
- Click the “Download new Render” button in the pop-up window. PLEASE NOTE: If the "Download new Render" button does not appear in the popup window, you can go directly to this site to find the new download.
- This will direct you to the `install.appcenter` website.
- Before clicking the Download button on the website, check to see if the current version of Render is still running. If so, click the Render icon in the taskbar to open the app again. This will cause Render to finish its sync and then close.
- Now click the "Download" button on the web page. A pop-up may appear in the top right-hand corner of your browser asking if you want to keep the download. Please select “Keep."
- After the download is complete, locate the Render installer file in your Downloads folder. It will have a file name similar to “Render_3.8.10_x64.msix.”
- Double-click the file and choose “Install”
- NOTE: Some devices will be prompted to download an additional .NET package. If this is needed for your installation, you will see the following pop-up:
- Click “Download it now”
- Check your Downloads folder for this file titled something like: windowsdesktop-runtime-…..exe
- Run this file and follow the install instructions. This process will finish with a popup stating “.NET Installation was successful.”
- Close this window.
- Now, open the new “Render 3” application (it may have opened automatically). Your previous version of Render 3 is labeled “Render” so make sure to choose the “Render 3” application. You may also have Render 2.3 installed which has its own and different icon.

C. Migrate Your Project Data
- You should see a login screen like this:
- Tap on the "Import from Render 3.7" button. If nothing happens wait patiently until you see an indication that the program is importing the data. Eventually, you will see a popup declaring "Successful!"
- Now login as the user for this device. If you only see Global Users (the configure or consultant), it is likely that more than one project was imported. Login as one of the Global User and select a project. Then, all the users of that project will appear when Render opens.
- This device and project are now ready for use.
D. What to do with the Render 3.7.7 application
- Users who only work on one project on their device should uninstall Render 3.7.7 after the migration. Go to Apps and Features, type in Render, tap the 3-dot menu on "Render" (not Render 3), and choose 'uninstall.'
- Users who work with more than one Render project might have to continue using both (or all three) Render versions. Such users are often those who serve as Config/IT or Back Translators or Consultants. For these users it will be important to keep each relevant version of Render installed and to distinguish the application icons and open the correct version for each project.
